Neuromodulator injections
Neuromodulator injections are known by the names Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, and Nuceiva. These brands manufacture neuromodulators based on botulinum toxin type A, which are known to temporarily modulate muscle activity.
Aesthetics
It is widely used in cosmetic medicine to reduce wrinkles and fine lines, giving the face a relaxed and rested appearance. The targeted areas are:
- Forehead
- Frown lines (or glabella: between the eyes)
- Crow’s feet (outer corners of the eyes)
- Eyebrows (eyebrow lift)
Therapeutic
Neuromodulatory agents also have recognized therapeutic applications, particularly for relieving muscle pain and tension associated with temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders. The main symptoms are bruxism, jaw pain, and headaches. The targeted areas are:
- Masseter (cheek muscles)
- Temporal

Duration of treatment effectiveness

Possible side effects
Treatment with neuromodulators is safe and well tolerated when performed by a trained professional. However, like any medical treatment, it can cause certain short-term side effects:
- Mild pain or sensitivity at the injection site
- Localized redness or swelling
- Mild bruising
- Temporary feeling of heaviness or muscle fatigue
These effects usually disappear after a few hours to a few days.
You should notify your dentist if:
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding
- You have muscle disorders
- You have bleeding disorders
- You have an infection at the proposed injection site
Appointments
Appointment schedule and duration:
- Initial one-hour appointment: Initial assessment and planning
- Second appointment lasting 30 to 60 minutes: injections
- Final appointment lasting 30 minutes: follow-up two weeks after the injections
